Mike Anderson
Assistant Coach/Offensive Line

Mike Anderson begins his 13th season as offensive line coach and 17th overall with the Eagles in 2011. His first four years were as offensive backfield coach.

Anderson was head coach for six seasons at La Crosse Central High School, compiling a 27-3 conference record and claiming five league championships. He led the Red Raiders to five post-season appearances, making it to two semi-finals. A 1973 graduate of UW-Eau Claire, he was a three-time letter winner in football.


Reed Hoskins
Assistant Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks

Reed Hoskins is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Eagles' in 2011.  He will serve as UW-L's offensive coordinator and teach in the university's exercise & sport science department.

Hoskins served as the passing game coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, from 2008 through 2010. The Knights ranked second in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) in total offense per game (384.0 yards) and third in scoring per game (31.6 points) in 2010.  The team also set single-game school records for passing yards and touchdowns in a game.

Under Hoskins' tutelage in 2009, Wartburg led the conference in total offense (412.0) and ranked second in scoring (30.3).  The Knights led the IIAC in passing offense (3,036 yards) and pass efficiency (134.5) in 2008 while setting school records for passing yards, pass completions and receiving yards.

The Knights won the IIAC title in 2008 and 2010 and compiled a record of 26-8 in Hoskins' three years. Wartburg advanced to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Quarterfinals in 2008.

Hoskins also served as Wartburg's recruiting coordinator since 2009, responsible for recruiting in Central Iowa, South Chicago Suburbs, and Southern Minnesota.

A 2006 graduate of Wartburg, Hoskins also served as an assistant coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College (2006-07) and St. Cloud State University, Minn. (2007-08).

His teaching duties have included courses at Grinnell (Iowa) High School, St. Cloud State and Wartburg.


Kevin Schultz
Assistant Coach/Strength Coach/Defensive Line

Kevin Schultz begins his first season as an assistant coach at UW-La Crosse in 2011.  He also serves as the director of sports performance for the Eagles' athletic department.  Schultz comes to UW-L after serving as the strength and conditioning coach at Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) since 2008. 

He joined Carnegie Mellon in 2008 as the first full-time strength and conditioning coach. Schultz was in charge of all 17 varsity sports strength and conditioning sessions for the Tartans.  He also served as an assistant coach with the football team in the fall primarily working with the inside linebackers and with the men's and women's track & field teams working with the throwers during the winter and spring season.

Schultz received his bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science teaching with concentrations in strength and conditioning and coaching competitive athletics from UW-L in 2006 and his master's degree in exercise and sport science human performance with an emphasis in strength and conditioning also from UW-L in 2008.  In the spring of 2010, Schultz received a Post-Masters Certificate in Rehabilitation Sciences with an emphasis in corrective exercises from California University of Pennsylvania.

Playing linebacker at UW-L, Schultz was a member of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship teams in 2002, 2003 and 2004.  He was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at UW-L from 2007-08 and was a member of the strength and conditioning student staff in 2005-06. Schultz was also an assistant women's track & field coach for the Eagles.

He holds the distinction as a registered Strength & Conditioning Coach® and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength Coaches Association, a Level 1 Certified Weightlifting Club Coach and Sports Performance Coach by USA Weightlifting, a Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist and Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, a Registered® USATF Level 1 Coach by USA Track & Field, a Certified Technical Coach by the Unites States Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association, a Certified Sports Nutritionist by the International Society of Sports Nutrition and is a Certified Kinesio® Taping Practitioner by Kinesio® Taping Association.

Brian Hellenbrand
Assistant Coach/Linebackers

Brian Hellenbrand is in fourth season on the Eagles’ coaching staff in 2011.  He began as a student coach in 2008 working with the wide receivers.  Hellenbrand is coaching the linebackers for the third season in 2011.

A native of Middleton, Wisconsin, Hellenbrand graduated from UW-L in December 2010 with a degree in secondary education.


Spencer Herkelman
Assistant Coach/Tight Ends

Spenser Herkelman is in his first year on the Eagles’ coaching staff in 2011. He will coach the tight ends and assist with the offensive line.

A 2011 graduate of Wartburg College (Iowa) with a degree in physical education, Herkelman was a member of two Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) championship teams with the Knights.

He also earned a pair of All-IIAC honors as an offensive lineman.

Herkelman is currently pursuing his master’s degree at UW-L in the exercise sport science department.


Nick Kaschub
Assistant Coach/Tight Ends

Nick Kaschub completed his first season as an assistant coach at UW-La Crosse in 2010.  A native of Oregon, Wisconsin, Kaschub was a four-year letter winner at linebacker for the Eagles.  He played in 28 career games.

Kaschub recorded 21 career tackles and returned a fumble 15-yards for a touchdown in UW-L's victory over Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) during the 2009 season.

He is a secondary education (broadfield social studies) and political science major and history minor.  Kaschub plans to graduate in summer, 2011.


Dempsey Miller
Assistant Coach/Defensive Line

Dempsey Miller begins his fourth year on the UW-L coaching staff in 2011.  A native of Davenport, Iowa, Miller received a football scholarship to the University of Northern Iowa. 

He played for five years in the National Indoor Football League and three seasons for the Mid-American Football League, where he earned all-league honors.

Miller, who earned his bachelor’s degree from UNI and master’s from UW-L, was named the 2007 La Crosse Tribune’s Person of the Year.  He has worked for the School District of La Crosse for the last nine years as the African American Family Liaison.


Frank Tierney
Assistant Coach/Wide Receivers

Frank Tierney begins his 13th year with the coaching staff in 2011, working with wide receivers.  He is a 1973 graduate of Manhattan College where he led the team in receptions and touchdowns as a senior.  Tierney also coached football in his hometown of Mahopac, New York.

He holds a master’s degree from UW-L (1998) and is an advisor in the university's Academic Advising Center.
