Joe Mohr
Assistant Coach
Joe Mohr enters his fourth season as assistant baseball coach at UW-La Crosse in 2012. In his first season he helped guide the Eagles to a 22-16 record and a berth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament. Mohr coaches the infielders, outfielders, hitters, and helps with recruiting.
Mohr earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Iowa Wesleyan College in 2005. He served as the Tigers' team captain and starting shortstop while hitting .316 with eight home runs, 21 doubles, 44 RBI, and 73 runs scored in his two years at Iowa Wesleyan. He also ranks fourth in career assists with 232.
Prior to arriving at Iowa Wesleyan, Mohr played two years at Frank Phillips Junior College in Borger, Texas. In his two years, Mohr served as a utility player and played seven of the nine positions. During his sophomore year, the Plainsmen set a school record with 31 wins.
Mohr prepped at San Angelo Central (Texas) High School where he was a two-year starter and all-conference second basemen under head coach Ted Leps. Mohr has played 10 seasons with the Menomonie Eagles. He has also played for the Exeland Braves, the Eau Claire Cavaliers, and has served as a camp instructor at the University of Michigan Baseball Camps.
He completed his master’s degree in sport administration from UW-La Crosse in May 2010. In addition to his coaching duties, Mohr also works as a substitute teacher in the surrounding school districts and runs the scoreboard at UW-L men’s and women’s basketball games. Mohr resides in Galesville, Wisconsin with his wife, Kelly.
Kent Van Egtern
Assistant Coach/Defensive Instructor
Kent Van Egtern begins his third year as an assistant baseball coach at UW-La Crosse in 2012. He works primarily with the infielders and hitters, along with assisting with recruiting.
Van Egtern came to UW-L after serving as the head baseball coach at La Crosse Central High School in 2008 and 2009. While at Central, he led the Red Raiders to a 40-13 overall record and their first Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Tournament appearance since 1999.
Prior to being at Central, Van Egtern was an assistant baseball coach at Waupun (Wis.) High School. While coaching in his childhood home, he helped lead the Warriors to two consecutive state tournament berths and the 2007 WIAA Division 2 State Championship. Waupun went 39-10 over the two season, including 10-1 in the state tournament.
Van Egtern resides in La Crosse with his wife, Stacy, who is currently a business student at UW-L. The couple has two sons, Trent and Trevon.
Matt Kloss
Assistant Coach/Outfield Coach
Matt Kloss is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Eagles in 2012.
A 2002 UW-La Crosse graduate in marketing, Kloss earned four letters for the Eagles. He started 43 games during the 2002 season, hitting .343 with 39 runs scored and 31 runs batted in.
Kloss led UW-L with four sacrifice flies and was six-of-eight in stolen base attempts.
He was named to the 2001 All-WIAC Team after hitting .336 in 30 games. Kloss started 29 games during the 2001 campaign and finished with 21 runs scored, seven doubles and 18 RB.
He led the Eagles with three sacrifice hits and finished six-of-nine in stolen base attempts.
Scott Gillitzer
Assistant Head Coach/Hitting Instructor/Recruiting Coord.
Scott Gillitzer is in second season with the UW-La Crosse baseball team. He serves as the Eagles' assistant head coach, hitting instructor and recruiting coordinator. Drafted in the 22nd Round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2001, Gillitzer played four years of minor league baseball in the Dodgers' system. Gillitzer has also coached at Winona State, with the La Crosse Loggers, and for the La Crosse Northstars.
Also joining the camp staff will be current UW-L players. They bring thier skill, knowledge and enthusiasm to help participants improve in their specific positions. Camper to instructor ratio will be at 5:1 or better for all camps sessions.
